A luxury skiing holiday offers far more space and comfort than the average hotel. Whatever a skier can require, the French catered catered ski chalet has it in spades. The Chamonix Mont-Blanc valley certainly has some very fine luxury catered ski chalets.

I had previously completed a ski season in Meribel with my girlfriend before heading to Chamonix Mont Blanc. That winter saw an abundance of snow and icy winds, much moreso than previous years. I have to admit this is when I fell in love with Chamonix.

But, I did not have the greatest chalets back then. There were no catered snowboarding chalet or plush hotels. A tiny boxshoe appartment that Mrs Hubbard would have enjoyed.

Chamonix Mont Blanc these days is profoundly different to the skiing resort it was 10 or 15 years ago. Ten years ago, you didn’t go there unless you were an advanced skier. Nowadays, much wealthier clients frequent Chamonix. Many of the old seassonaire bars have gone. Taken over, done up and opened as smart cafes with matching prices. Today you won’t find it hard to find accommodation, if you have a budget to match the masses of luxury catered ski catered ski chalets. Now you will find an over abundance of Chamonix Mont-Blanc catered chalets, from luxury catered ski chalets to basic ski ski chalets. In today’s market, it seems that catered ski catered ski chalet holidays are increasing in popularity.

What have I done since my first holiday in Chamonix ? Well I now run my own catered chalet in Chamonix providing ski holidays in Chamonix Mont Blanc. We began with just a small chalet catering for not many people. Now, ten years later, I won three Cham chalets and have been able to have a life most dream of having.

Chamonix Mont Blanc

Cham ventured into tourism in 1741 when two heavily armed English explorers, William Windham and Richard Pococke, took three days in comparison with the current one hour to reach the valley from Geneva.

Being at the foot of Mont Blanc, Chamonix Mont-Blanc was destined to be a popular resort from the start, nearly a century ago. After the fresh overnight snowfall you must rise long before the sun to cut first tracks. By mid morning not a bowl or a single gully will be left unsullied by the passage of ski and board.

There’s a plenitude of groomed pistes, but they are much steeper than in most other resorts. This is not a place for those who demand doorstep skiing and enjoy miles of conveniently linked motorways.

There are some very steep and deep runs on the opposite side of the valley – Aiguille du Midi and Les Grands Montets – and on the other side of the valley are some excellent tree runs, like Le Tour which is at the far end. From the novice terrain of Le Tour and Les Houches, to the arduous descents of Les Grands Montets there is something to make everyone happy.

Obviously, Chamonix Mont Blanc is predominantly acclaimed for it’s unrivalled off piste skiing. Chamonix Mont Blanc is renowned as an extreme sports Mecca, with arguably some of the best off piste skiing in the world. It is a magnet for powder hounds, who are attracted by the steep slopes. The Grands Montets is a good start. The drop is around 2000m and you don’t even need to hike. From the Aiguille de Midi the infamous Vallee Blanche is a 22km descent. The run isn’t outrageously rigorous but you do beed a guide.

Despite that, you can still have fun with the colorful residents of Cham, and enjoy the clubs and bars they have to offer. The MBC, about a 5 minute walk from the center of resort, has a good repoutation for homemade beer and a year round clientele. Real late nighters end up in the Garage in Cham Sud.

You won’t find all the tourist trappings you typically find in ski resorts with Chamonix.

But Chamonix Mont-Blanc is definitely worth the trip. Do you like your vacations to be snowy and wild? Then give Cham a shot.
